Awards and Recognition Committee

In line with NABS' strategic plan to move forward, a committee of NABS members and officers has been formed for the purpose and intent of establishing a system and criteria for RECOGNITION AWARDS based on merit and worthiness.

This approach is intended to fairly create competition among our members, affiliate dive clubs and supporters, who demonstrate their worthiness of receiving recognition from the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, Inc. The criteria for recipients of these awards will be within the ability and achievement of all active divers and diving related groups.

Beginning this year, in addition to award categories such as, "Diver of the Year," and "Dive Club of the Year," NABS wants to recognize the efforts and accomplishments of those individuals and organizations, who have contributed greatly to the sport of SCUBA diving, and made an impact on Black Divers through organizational development. This would come under the category of "Service To Diving." In November of 2004, we will also expand on the Annual Summit Awards Gala with the introduction and inauguration of the "NABS Hall of Fame" recognition awards. This induction process is an opportunity to honor those individual members of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, who have distinguished themselves in our organization and the diving community.

Specific criteria for different categories of awards are being decided by members of the Awards and Recognition Committee. However, members of NABS, and their affiliated dive clubs are not excluded from offering suggestions, and input for the purpose of establishing criteria, or nominating a worthy candidate is encouraged and welcomed. All nominations with claims of accomplishments will be subject to verification. Suggestions and nominations should be addressed to a committee member.

Diver award recognition will be based on diving frequency, development, growth and involvement in dive related activities. Clubs are expected to develop dive-training programs, sponsor activities, and participate in community involvement projects.
